About the extension cable
The 5 meter DB9 female to DB9 female CAN bus extension cable is great for connecting multiple CAN nodes in a system. In particular, the use of two DB9 female connectors makes this cable ideal for connecting a CANmod to a CANedge 2nd port when you need to distance the devices.
If your goal is instead to connect a CANedge/CANmod to an existing CAN bus directly, we recommend to instead use our DB9-DB9 (3M). This is because the 3M cable has a male/female pair - and because it is normally recommended to avoid excessively long stub lengths on a larger CAN bus system (e.g. in a vehicle).
The cable is non-terminated, letting you combine the cable with other DB9 adapter cables. The DB9 pinouts are according to CiA 303-1, meaning that the cable can be used with any of our CAN loggers and adapters - as well as most other CAN tools on the market.

Connecting a CANedge and CANmod
Need distance between your CANedge and CANmod?
A common use case is to combine the CANedge CAN bus data logger with one or more CANmod devices. In larger vehicles (e.g. heavy-duty) it can be necessary to have significant distance between the CANedge and CANmod. For example, a CANedge2/CANedge3 may be deployed in an area ideal for connectivity - while a CANmod.temp may be placed in an area of interest for temperature measurement. Here, the DB9-DB9 (5M) extension cable makes it quick and easy to connect the devices. If 5 meters is not enough, you can extend the CAN bus further by adding DB9-DB9 (3M) cables.
